To Be the Undersea Coral

Published on

Tubes of rainbow, like Stag’s antlers,
surround me
and water flows across my eyes,
I am sinking into oceanic floor,
sand shimmers and ripples and particles
cloud the crystal blue
glittering in the liquid and reflecting
the myriad hues of nature.

I lay with the rocks,
with the crabs and the fish,
with the eels and the anenomes
with the water cascading over us all
and I stare up at the sun
as it warms and brings us life.

I am the coral.
I am the snaking rocks,
the pipelines of underwater life,
A mesh, a safehouse, a place
for all cares to vanish,
I am solidifying.
My humanity dissolves,
the metamorphosis completed
my memories that of the round pebbles
found washed up on the beach.
