The Neon Puddle

My watch beeps a melody as I lean
against bricked wall,
sighing heavy beat
as our minutes run from us.
Our agreed has become lost
and only I
seem to be clutching at our promise.
We met here before,
far in front
of our vicious arguments and war,
when happiness could be found
at the bottom of a plate,
fine dining,
fine company.
We said it was forever,
we joined souls
with certainty that only we knew the future.
The rain continues and I wipe its tears
from my cheeks, unsure where we are
separate.
The crass glow of luminosity
reflected at me from pooling water
beneath my feet,
I tap its surface to spy the ripples and
their progress outwards, resolving
my heart as I vow to wait.
