Goodbye You Year

This is the final day of our fair
twenty twenty five and I will be equal
parts happy sad to see you move
behind.

A quarter of a century has passed,
and I am trying to be optimistic
about futures paths, but every day
removed from the 20th, grants fear.

Did things move too fast, too connected
to tech, internet as beast untamed
that has snared all souls
in a constant scroll?

Or maybe nostalgia has taken the
grips again, ‘the old days’ like
some ninety year old who cannot
handle the passages of trends.

I am not shouting at a cloud, rather
the cloud. For the damage it has wrought
does outweigh the good, but we
must be better to mitigate.

We can roll this 2026 like a brand
new snowball, and smile, and jump
and cradle our fellows for
this is the quarter we can turn it around!
