Sideways

You swept past me,
a zephyr of perfume and majesty,
I so engrossed in word and song
that your steps retreated and you
swept again.

Your dress,
patterned after summer delights,
tumbled over leg and shoe,
stark red heels
that never caused concern, your
tower rigid.

Your fingers graced my arm,
the lightest of touches enough
to rouse my thoughts, immediately
they turned to you, visions
of future piling into focus.

You smiled and I wept inside,
that flash of teeth, taut lips,
creased cheek and deep eyes,
a trap meant for snaring only
me, it caged me.

Your hand outstretched, lifting
me from tired wood, filling my world
to the brim with you, spilling
over sides of feelings, until
we create an ocean.
