Poisonous Little Thoughts

“Frown, you clown,”
here they come again.
I see you,
I hear you,
I feel you.
Clambering all over me, digging
into my skin, clawing at my eyes,
forcing their way between fingers
held tight against ears and lips
held shut with hope.
They want in,
they crave in,
they need in.
I am their home, their vessel to
be controlled and steered through
their machinations and what can
I do? How much strength do I
really have to stop them?
I am fading,
I am losing,
Have I lost?
I twist and turn and flail my body,
ineffectually, as they relentlessly
batter all sides, small nicks appear
across my flesh and they pounce,
advantage theirs, opening secured
and I am full to bursting.
