Lair of the Night

Published on

Stooped, duped, taking the lower path
through bush, berry, thicket
broken the stones, cracked the concrete,
feet stumble and catch
on promises of isolation.

Eyes flit, noise peaks,
piques the mind, ensnares
like rabbits cornered
by vicious vulpine,
head swivels, tilted panic.

Night coos and soothes,
whispering pleasantries,
calming nerves and waiting,
lingering, plotting and planning,
patiently for the dawn.
