Divot in a Desk

Published on

Hot desking, hot swapping,
nomad of the office space,
this desk has a divot in it.

Little gouge,
all ringed with dirt and wood,
next to me,
glances show a squashed raisin,
or possibly a burnt pea.

How do you burn a pea?

The divot only reaches about
4mm but is as wide as the pacific,
in comparison to the rest
of the wooded surface.

I want to prod, and poke,
the burgundy break calling out,
but the germaphobe within screeching,
‘think about the muck!!’
and I hover, linger, look.

How did that desk divot?
What fell, or dropped, or collided,
to leave such a gash,
and where did the top part go?

Does the desk miss this little chunk,
does it feel half a desk?
It need not worry.

One divot,
one less than perfect surface,
but still wonderfully holding my stuff.
