A Slow Dawn

The sun creeps upwards as though
a war with clouds were planned,
who shall be frontward determined
on that horizon
before any move has struck.
Sun can never win, never broach
cloud unless allowed,
position measured not in the kilo
but staggering in the giga.
Earth turns and Sun shuffles
a tandem, two celestials entwining
as cloud hides atop mountain,
first place podium in hand.
